MANILA, Philippines — The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is expected to bring rain showers and thunderstorms over the country’s southern parts, particularly Palawan, Visayas, and parts of Mindanao, on Saturday, October 8.

Weather updates issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Friday afternoon showed that the ITCZ is causing cloud bands over the southern tip of Mindanao.

Cloud movement appears to be coming from the country’s eastern side – confirming Pagasa’s previous pronouncement that the southwest monsoon (habagat) season has already ended.

The state weather bureau noted that cloud bands moving from the east might also bring rain over the Bicol Region.

For the rest of the country, fairer weather is anticipated, but isolated rains and thunderstorms may also occur.

Due to the rain caused by the ITCZ and the cloud bands, temperatures over Legazpi and Puerto Princesa on Saturday would be lower than the rest of Luzon, at 24 to 31 degrees Celsius and 25 to 31 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Tagaytay and Baguio would be cold at 22 to 31 degrees Celsius and 17 to 25 degrees Celsius while Metro Manila and Tuguegarao would both have 24 to 33 degrees Celsius and Laoag, 24 to 33 degrees Celsius.

Also, due to the ITCZ, temperatures over the Visayas would be slightly lower. For example, Tacloban would have it at 25 to 30 degrees Celsius; Cebu, 26 to 30 degrees Celsius; and Iloilo, 25 to 31 degrees Celsius.

For Mindanao, Cagayan de Oro would experience temperatures ranging from 24 to 31 degrees Celsius, while Zamboanga and Davao would feel it between 25 and 33 degrees Celsius.

No gale warning has been raised in any part of the country’s waters, but Pagasa reminded fisherfolk and small boat operators that sea conditions over the seas of extreme northern Luzon would be moderate-rough.

Meanwhile, Luzon’s western waters and the whole eastern seaboard are projected to be in the moderate condition as the rest of the country’s waters would have a slight to moderate condition.
