COTABATO CITY—Police arrested another suspect in the 2009 Maguindanao massacre while he was being treated for shrapnel wounds at a private hospital here following an explosion in Mamasapano town.

A warrant of arrest was served on Ipeh Ampatuan in connection with the politically-related killings of at least 57 people, mostly media workers, on Nov. 23, 2009, in Ampatuan town. He is the son of another suspect, former Mayor Anwar Ampatuan of Shariff Aguak, capital town of Maguindanao.

Senior Supt. Marcelo Pintac, provincial police chief, said Ipeh was one of several people on board a motorized banca that was traversing a river in Barangay Libutan when an explosion occurred at about 4 p.m. on Sunday. Edwin Fernandez and Charlie C. Señase, Inquirer Mindanao
