5 dead, 1 injured in Koronadal City road accident

MANILA, Philippines—Five persons were killed and another was injured after a passenger van collided with a trailer truck along a highway in Koronadal City before dawn Monday, police said.

Senior Superintendent Romy Campones, Highway Partol Group Region 12 chief, said a white multicab van (MVW 135), driven by Joel Alvarez, 32, was on its way to the city when it crashed into a 10-wheeler prime mover tractor with license plate MWB 195 and trailer plate LZA 707 driven by Juanito Antinado Villaran, 34.

Campones said the tractor suddenly blocked the path of the multicab in front of JC Gardens National Highway, Barangay (village) Carpenter Hill, Koronadal City after trying to evade an unidentified motorcycle that suddenly turned turtle around 4:20 a.m.

Due this, Alvarez’s passengers identified as Domingo, Maria Jane and Carlo Farochilin 45, 43, and 16, respectively, and Ramonito Dollete, legal age, all resident of Kauran Ampatuan, Maguindanao, were declared dead on arrival by their attending physician 5:50 a.m., Campones said.

He said Alvarez, 32, sustained serious physical injuries and died around 6:10 a.m. while he was being treated at the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital.

Meanwhile, another passenger identified as Revlin Nolasco, 18, sustained injures in different parts of his body and is now being treated at the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital, he said.

Vehicles involved were brought to Koronadal police station while Villaran was placed likewise under their custody for proper disposition, he said.
