Damaged road in Sinsin
A ROAD got damaged in barangay Sinsin, Cebu City, making it impassable by vehicles and pedestrians.
“It’s not open for transportation. People on foot should not be using it anymore as access,” Alvin Santillan, chief of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CCDRRMC) told Cebu Daily News in a text message.
Santillan said he will discuss the repairs of the collapsed road with Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama.
He said the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) had yet to assess the extent of damage sustained by the road. Geologists were sent to study the area, he said. Correspondent Rhea Ruth V. Rosell
Summer sports program
CEBU City Hall will provide training in 12 sports disciplines for Cebu City’s youth as part of its summer sports training program this year.
Edward Hayco, who heads the city’s sports commission, said they will offer trainings in badminton, eskrima kali arnis, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, taekwondo, dance sports, athletics, boxing, chess, softball and baseball.
Training sessions are held in the sports centers of certain barangays identified for the programs.
Hayco said due to their personnel limitations, they clustered the city’s 80 barangays into 26 groups.
City athletes volunteer as instructors for their “self-fulfillment.”
“Our grassroots program help us find talents in the different barangays and provide them with opportunities to further develop their talents,” said Hayco.
Mayor Michael Rama earlier pushed for the construction of a baseball and softball field in a vacant lot located along the Mambaling access and at the back of the South Road Properties (SRP)’s welcome sign.
Hayco told the mayor that the area had to filled and a grader used to help level the soil.
The sports commission wants to tap private sector participation for their project.
