MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday said it recorded 16,071 new cases of COVID-19 from September 26 to October 2.
The agency’s latest weekly report indicated indicates a daily average of 2,288 new infections, 10 percent lower than the daily average of 2,556 new cases a week prior. The DOH logged 17,891 fresh infections from September 19-25.
Of the 16,071 new cases last week, four or 0.03 percent were tagged as severe or critical, bringing the active number of severe or critical cases to 753.
An additional 228 deaths were added to the country’s COVID-19 death toll – 35 of them occurred in September, while the rest were backlogs recorded as early as September 2021 until July 2022, according to the DOH’s weekly report.
Meanwhile, utilization of non-ICU beds for coronavirus patients decreased from 27.8 percent to 26.2 during the same period. However, utilization of ICU beds for COVID-19 patients increased from 22.9 percent to 24.3 percent.
The DOH’s weekly report also showed that fully-vaccinated people in the country slightly rose to 73,181,447 (93.70 percent of the target population) after 168,894 more received anti-COVID shots last week.
On the other hand, the total number of boosted people stood at 19,760,243 as of October 2 after 548,335 people got their booster doses in the same period.
Earlier, the DOH projected that the number of daily COVID-19 cases nationwide might range from 4,000 to 8,000 by the end of October if compliance with the minimum public health standards continues to deteriorate.
