Castro, Santos share weekly plum
TALK ‘N TEXT guard Jason Castro and Petron Blaze forward Arwind Santos made the most out of the opportunities created by injuries to their teammates en route to bagging the co-Player of the Week honors in the PBA Governor’s Cup.
Castro took the scoring cudgels due to the absence of starting point guard, Jimmy Alapag, and ran away with it to the tune of 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in leading them to a 2-0 (win-loss) start in the tournament they aim to top to realize a rare Grand Slam.
Santos, on the other hand, garnered 14.0 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 1.0 steals in helping the Boosters notch back-to-back wins after opening up their campaign on a sour note. The newly named Blaze Boosters were already missing the services of frontcourt-mates Jay Washington, Danny Ildefonso and Noy Baclao along with guard, Denok Miranda.
Alapag suffered a sprain just four minutes into the second half and was sidelined from thereon in their opening game against Alaska last Wednesday.
Castro took over and scored seven of his 11 points in the fourth period, ensuring the Texters complete their 101-75 rout./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
