THE Azkals upset PICPA-Cebu, 60-54 last Saturday to capture the 1st Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA)-2011 Goodwill Games title at the Capitol Parish gym.
The Azkals led 15-13 in the opening period with Michael Jumuad leading the charge. But PICPA-Cebu responded with a 13-10 run in the second to rule the half, 26-25. Another 15-10 rally in the third gave PICPA-Cebu a six-point lead, 41-35.
However, the Azkals unloaded a 25-13 bomb in the fourth to seal the six-point win.
Arjam Bonsucan and Michael Jumuad led the Azkals with 16 and 12 points, respectively, while Andre Tocao and Benedict Bandala paced PICPA-Cebu with 19 and 10 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, JPIA beat PICPA-Bohol in overtime, 86-83 to claim the third place trophy.
After an 83-all deadlock, Darren Bayalas canned a buzzer-beating three-pointer to peg the final score. Bayalas led JPIA with 25 points while Fritz Bayno and Rex Encallado combined with 43 points.
Rogemer Ojendras led PICPA-Bohol with 30 points.
