CITY OF CALAPAN — A police officer surrendered on Tuesday, Sept. 27, to fellow cops after he shot and killed his wife and her companion in Naujan town in Oriental Mindoro province.
The Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan (Mimaropa) office said in a report Wednesday, Sept. 28, that an in-depth investigation was being conducted on the case of Corporal Michael Angelo Detera Geneta, 33, assigned at the 1st Oriental Mindoro Provincial Mobile Force Company.
A report from the provincial police said a witness saw the suspect on Monday night block a car on the shoulder of the road in Sitio (sub-village) Amuguis in Barangay Barcenaga.
The witness said Geneta shot the car passengers, who turned out to be his wife Jacklyn Claire Geneta, 33, a medical technologist and William Heart Eli Gacusan, both employees at Naujan municipal health office. The cop then fled.
The victims were taken to the Medical Mission Group Hospital in this city but died along the way.
Geneta surrendered at 8 p.m. the next day.
Initial investigation shows that jealousy was the reason for the shooting.
“I would like to express my sincerest condolences to the bereaved families of the victims and assure them that justice will be served following the due process of law,” Mimaropa police chief Brigadier General Sidney Sultan Hernia said in a statement Wednesday.
Hernia reminded all field commanders and unit leaders in the region to closely monitor and supervise the activities of their men to ensure that they would not get involved in unlawful acts.
