TACLOBAN CITY — A driver of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Eastern Visayas is facing charges after he was arrested for allegedly stealing money owned by the provincial board secretary of Eastern Samar.

Nieto Yerro, 56, was accused of opening a car parked in a resort in Borongan City, Eastern Samar on Tuesday, September 27, according to reports reaching the regional headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP) based in Palo town, Leyte.

Yerro reportedly managed to steal P85,000 placed in a bag inside an unlocked car.

The incident was captured by a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera inside the resort.

Agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) eventually arrested Yerro inside a lodging house at about 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Seized from him was money worth P52,500.

Franklin Robedizo, the owner of the money, decided to file a complaint against Yerro, saying he needed the money which he loaned for the educational needs of his children.

The suspect is presently detained at the Paranas Police Station.
