LUCENA CITY – Quezon province’s  provincial disaster management operation center was placed on red alert status by Governor Angelina Tan as of Saturday as Super Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru) roars closer to land.

Tan also ordered the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and their local counterparts to heighten the monitoring of their respective areas of responsibility and immediately provide situational reports.

She also tasked local authorities to prepare residents of disaster-prone communities for the pre-emptive evacuation in localities along the forecast track of “Karding.”

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Quezon suspended the sailing of all vessels.

In its 8:00 a.m. typhoon update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that “Karding”  reached super typhoon category  after a period of explosive intensification of 90 kilometers per hour (kph) in 24 hours.

“It is forecast to continue intensifying and may make landfall at or near a peak intensity of 185-205 [kph],” Pagasa said.

The center of the eye of “Karding” was estimated at 230 kilometer east of Infanta, Quezon, packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center with gustiness of up to 230 kph.
