THE CEBU International Convention Center hosts one of Cebu’s biggest running event this year when the Globe Run For Home fires off there starting at 4 a.m. today.
A total of 5,319 runners have confirmed their participation in the event, which will have 21-kilometer, 15k, 10k, 5k and 3k distances.
Noted running personalities such as Dr. Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III and his wife Donna, multi-awarded triathlete Noy Jopson and his wife Amale, ABS-CBN news anchor and ultra runner Haidee Acuña and breast cancer survivors headed by Mary Anne Solomon will be among today’s participants. Also, around 150 runners from JP Morgan and Chase will be joining.
Of the total number of participants, 1,015 will be competing in the 21k race. The 15k race will have 269, while 1,190 have signed up for the 10k. The 5k has 1,555 while 1,290 will compete in the 3k category.
The proceeds of the race will go to the Gawad Kalinga, Habitat For Humanity, Cebu Biodiversity Foundation and the Philippine Tarsier Foundation. Gawad Kalinga and HFH are raising funds for their housing developments in Iligan and Cagayan De Oro, two cities hit badly by Typhoon Sendong last December.
The 21k champions will take home P15,000 while 15k first placers will walk away with P10,000. The 10k winners get P7,000 while 5k top finishers win P5,000. The 3k winners will get P3,000. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
