Classes suspended in some areas in Luzon due to ‘habagat’
MANILA, Philippines — Some areas in Luzon on Tuesday suspended classes in all levels due to the effects of the southwest monsoon, locally known as the “habagat.”
Valenzuela City was the first to declare suspension on Tuesday morning, effectively suspending afternoon classes in all levels both public and private.
Work in government offices — excluding emergency response offices — and the administration of COVID-19 vaccines were also suspended.
Private businesses, meanwhile, are free to decide whether or not to halt operations as well.

Aside from Valenzuela City, the local governments of Marikina City, Caloocan City, Malabon City, Navotas City, Parañaque City, Las Piñas City, Muntinlupa City, Taguig City, and the municipality of Pateros in Metro Manila have also declared suspension of afternoon classes in all levels in both public and private schools.
Meanwhile, apart from the Rizal Province in Calabarzon, the municipalities of Kawit, Silang, Ternate, and Maragondon in the province of Cavite have all suspended their afternoon classes in all levels.
This came after Pagasa earlier said that rain due to the southwest monsoon is expected to continue throughout the day in Metro Manila.
In its latest rainfall advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said light to moderate to at times heavy rains are forecast over Metro Manila, Cavite, Zambales, and Bataan.
