MANILA, Philippines — Some areas in Luzon on Tuesday suspended classes in all levels due to the effects of the southwest monsoon, locally known as the “habagat.”

Valenzuela City was the first to declare suspension on Tuesday morning, effectively suspending afternoon classes in all levels both public and private.

Work in government offices — excluding emergency response offices — and the administration of COVID-19 vaccines were also suspended.

This came after Pagasa earlier said that rain due to the southwest monsoon is expected to continue throughout the day in Metro Manila.

In its latest rainfall advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said light to moderate to at times heavy rains are forecast over Metro Manila, Cavite, Zambales, and Bataan.
