P67M educational aid given to Ilocos students

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — At least P67 million has been disbursed to “students-in-crisis” in the Ilocos region, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development on Monday, Sept. 19.

The distribution of educational assistance was under the Assistance to Individuals-In-Crisis Situation program of the agency to help vulnerable families cope with their studies.

So far, at least 29,901 qualified students in the region have availed themselves of assistance of the 319,612 applicants.

The agency said it had only P33 million in funds left for distribution, or 33.24 percent of the total P100 million allocated as an educational aid.

During the distribution on Sept. 17, the regional DSWD said at least 1,286 students in Ilocos Norte received financial aid; 1,336 in Ilocos Sur; 38 in La Union; and 3,304 in Pangasinan. INQ
