LEGAZPI CITY — An unidentified man was found dead in Naga River in Naga City, Camarines Sur province on Sunday morning, Sept. 18, just a day after the end of the Peñafrancia Festival.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Tobias Bongon, Naga City police spokesperson, said a resident found the victim floating in the said river in Barangay (village) Mabolo around 7:30 a.m.
The victim was wearing police athletics shorts and had a tattoo on his right chest.
Bongon said they were coordinating with other units to identify the victim who was believed to be a member of the Philippine National Police.
On Saturday afternoon, Sept. 17, the image of Bicol Patroness Our Lady of Peñafrancia was transported back to its permanent home in Peñafrancia Basilica Minore via the Naga River on a pagoda accompanied by almost 500,000 devotees and pilgrims.
The fluvial procession marked the end of the weeklong religious festivities in Naga City which started on Sept. 9 with the resumption of the staging of the traslacion procession which involved the journey of the image from the Basilica to the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral through the main streets of Naga City.
