Farmer survives slay try in Quezon
LUCENA CITY – A farmer survived an assassination attempt by a fellow peasant in Tiaong town in Quezon province on Saturday night, Sept. 17.
Police reported Sunday, Sept. 18, that Nilo Alvarez, 43, was repeatedly shot by an assailant armed with a handgun in Barangay (village) Bukal around 8:30 p.m.
The victim was taken to Candelaria District Hospital in neighboring Candelaria town. He was later transferred to Quezon Medical Center in this city for further treatment.
The police said Alvarez pointed to a fellow villager Manuel Mailig as the one who allegedly shot the victim out of revenge.
Citing information from the victim, the police said Alvarez caught Mailig stealing a bunch of bananas which he reported to the landowner.
