MANILA, Philippines—Inquirer Libre editor in chief and Radyo Inquirer anchor Luis “Chito” dF. de la Vega leads 18 outstanding alumni of the University of Santos Tomas Faculty of Arts and Letters to be honored in the 2nd UST AB Gantimpala Awards on March 28 at the Kalayaan Hall of the Club Filipino in San Juan.
De la Vega, a UST Communication Arts batch 1984 graduate, will be recognized for his outstanding media service.
The affair is organized by The University of Santo Tomas Arts and Letters Alumni Association (USTAAA).
Also to be held is the 2012 Artlets annual homecoming dubbed as “AB in the Key of C (Neo-Centennial, Climate Change, Constitutional Crisis),” supported by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Manila Bulletin, ABS-CBN, Inquirer Libre, GMA Network and dzIQ 990 AM.
The event starts with a Holy Mass at 5 p.m. to be celebrated by AB Regent, Rev. Fr. Joseto N. Bernadas, OP. Dinner follows at 6 p.m. and program starts at 7 p.m.
Others to be honored are: Gov. Aurelio “Oyie” M. Umali (Political Science 1986) and lawyer Rafaelito M. Garayblas (Liberal Arts 1962) for government service; Arnold A. Clavio (Journalism 1987) for advocacy; Oscar F. Picazo (Economics ’78) for nation-building; Flora Ong-Go (Liberal Arts 1962) for teaching; Edwin H. Hernandez (Communication Arts 1987) for industry/management; Ma. Yolanda C. Crisanto (CA 86) for public relations; Doland D. Castro (Journalism 2000) for broadcast journalism; Nestor G. Cuartero (Journalism 1974) for print journalism; Juan Armando “John” V. Rojo (Journalism 1990), advertising/marketing; Associate Justice Rosalina A. Asuncion-Vicente (Sociology 1964) for law/justice; Sr. Bernardita D. Dianzon, FSP (Economics 1979) for literature; Alfredo Rizalito “Jojo” P. Alejar (Political Science) for Gawad Adhika (Prolific Artlet), Blanco; Brothers from Batch 87 —Glenn (Journalism), Noel (Communication Arts) and Michael (Literature) for Gawad Bigkis (Artlet Siblings); and Dylan Simon R. Ababou (Bes 2011) for Gawad Binhi (Artlet Young Achiever).
Jojo Alejar, Butch Francisco and Sienna Olaso will host the event, with comedian Brod Pete and other celebrities as guests. The reunion will also honor silver (1987) and golden (1962) jubilarians.
USTAAA president Teddy S. Pereña said UST Rector Rolando de la Rosa OP, Faculty of Arts and Letters Dean Michael Anthony Vasco, other university officials and professors of the college have been invited to grace the twin events.
A special recognition, the Natatanging Gabay at Paglilingkod, will be given to: Dr. Armando F. de Jesus, USTAAA founding adviser; Edgar M. Morada, USTAAA immediate past president; Associate Professor Nenet Galang-Pereña, UST AB Gantimpala founder; and Anabelle S. Ochoa, Gantimpala Search Committee 2010.
