MANILA, Philippines — A spike in COVID-19 cases with a one-week growth rate of 92 percent were recorded in Pangasinan, said Octa Research fellow Guido David on Wednesday morning.

According to David through his Twitter page, the province’s positivity rate also jumped from 6.9 on September 10 to 10.9 percent on September 12.

“Pangasinan with a spike in new COVID-19 cases. The 7-day average of new cases increased by 92%, from 36 to 69,” said David.

Reproduction number also increased from 1.10 to 1.40, but David noted that the average daily attack rate (Adar) is still considered low at 2.18 per 100,000 population.

Both healthcare utilization and intensive care unit (ICU) occupancy, on the other hand, also remained low at 30 and 17 percent, respectively.

“Pangasinan remained at low risk but the rise in cases must be monitored,” said David.

This came just a few days after a spike in COVID-19 cases was also observed in Rizal province with its one week growth rate at 47 percent.

As of Sep. 13, the country currently has 24,502 active infections of COVID-19, based on the Department of Health’s COVID-19 tracker.
