Gang of 5 high school boys nabbed for robbery

Five high school boys of a private school are now in hot water following their arrest after they allegedly conspired to rob an accountant on Thursday night in Quezon City.

Case investigator PO2 Jogene Hernandez said the suspects, whose ages range between 15 and 16 years old, were arrested after a man identified two of them as among the five who allegedly robbed him on Scout Fernandez Street, Barangay Sacred Heart.

Police were able to recover an Apple iPhone worth P30,000 and an iPad valued at P30,000, but not the P10,000 that the victim, Anthony Lozano, said he also had with him. Police also seized a screw driver, two bread knives and two bonnets from the suspects.

An investigation showed that two of the five suspects knew Lozano and were with the victim at the time of the robbery. They were also taken into custody after they reportedly turned out to be classmates of the suspects.

According to Chief Insp. Rodelio Marcelo, of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, Lozano said he met the two boys at Gateway Mall in Cubao at around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday to sell them Universal loading cards. The victim claimed the two told him that they would introduce him to other boys who were interested in buying his products.

But when the buyers did not show up at the mall and another meeting place in Kamuning, Lozano decided to go home accompanied by the two boys.

The victim said they were walking along Scout Fernandez Street when three men wearing hoods ran toward them and declared the heist.

The suspects  divested Lozano of his gadgets and cash at knife point and escaped aboard a black multicab (XPN 967).

Fortunately for the victim, he was able to flag down a passing police patrol car for help. Police eventually cornered the suspects at the Welcome Rotunda.

The boys underwent inquest proceedings on Friday for robbery.
