LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — At least 341 new COVID-19 cases were tallied in the Ilocos region in the past week, the regional office of the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday, Sept. 12.

The latest data from the regional DOH showed that the daily average case count went down to 49, or 20.9 percent lower than the number reported between Aug. 28 and Sept. 3.

Of the new cases, none were severe or critical. At least 13 patients of the same classification are in hospitals in the region.

The regional DOH also verified at least 18 deaths due to the virus in the past week.

As of Sept. 10, the healthcare utilization rate in the region remained at a “safe” level, with 26 percent, or 54 of the 207 intensive care unit (ICU) beds dedicated to COVID-19 patients, already occupied.

The DOH added that 243, or at least 17 percent of the 1,391 non-ICU beds, were also occupied.

At least 3.7 million people, or 88 percent of the target population of 4.3 million, had received their primary vaccine doses against COVID-19.

Of the 3.7 million, about 34 percent had received their first booster dose, the regional DOH data showed. INQ
