“Honesty” is indeed the best police policy.
A retired policeman and two civilians were arrested on Thursday afternoon for allegedly posing as traffic officers running an extortion racket in Quezon City.
Former SPO3 Jerry Oiga, 55, Ramilo Calinawan, 43, and Montano Ebe, 55, were apprehended by an “honesty team” formed within the ranks of the Quezon City Police District, according to QCPD director Chief Supt. Mario de la Vega.
The so-called honesty teams were formed by the Philippine National Police last month in a bid to curb corruption in the service, especially among police officers on street patrol duty.
QCPD’s 12 substations have a three-man honesty team each, aside from honesty teams based in the headquarters in Camp Karingal.
Oiga, Calinawan and Ebe were arrested at the corner of Regalado and Bristol Streets in Barangay North Fairview following complaints that they were extorting money from motorists.
