LUCENA CITY – More than 8,000 tree seedlings and bamboo stalks will be planted in different sites in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region on Tuesday (Sept. 13), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said Monday.

The DENR-Calabarzon public information office said the activity will serve as the kick-off ceremony for the nationwide simultaneous tree planting activity by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) with the theme: “Buhayin ang Pangangalaga ng Kalikasan.”

One of the tree planting event sites is the former 70-hectare sanitary landfill at Barangay Pintong Bukawe in San Mateo, Rizal, inside the Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape.

“Makabuluhan ang ating gagawing tree planting dahil ang napiling site ay dating sanitary landfill. Malaki ang maitutulong ng ating pagtatanim para sa patuloy na pagrehabilitate ng site,” Nilo Tamoria, DENR Calabarzon director, said in a statement.

Other identified tree planting sites are Trece Martirez City in Cavite; Barangay Kinalaglagan in Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas; Barangay Sta. Lucia in Dolores, Quezon; and Barangay Taytay in Majayjay, Laguna.

Different government agencies, civil society organizations, and other volunteers will participate in the activity.

Groups and organizations that want to join the tree planting activity will have to coordinate with the nearest DENR office in their areas.

The DILG’s tree planting project includes the Department of Agriculture and DENR. INQ
