MANILA, Philippines – Fair weather is expected nationwide on Monday as Typhoon Inday (International name: Muifa) heads for southern Japan, according to the state weather bureau.
In an early Monday morning weather forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said “Inday” was last spotted sone 425 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 190 kph.
It is moving northwest at 10kph.
“Maganda iyong panahon ang inaasahan po natin sa buong bansa maliban lang po sa mga isolated na pag-ulan dahil sa thunderstorm,” Pagasa weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said.
(Fair weather is expected throughout the country, but isolated rains due to thunderstorms may still be experienced.)
A gale warning has been hoisted over Batanes and Babuyan Islands, where 1.2 to 4 meter – high waves are possible, according to Aurelio.
Pagasa said that while “Inday” is not expected to trigger heavy rainfall, strong winds are expected in extreme Northern Luzon from Monday to Wednesday “due to the channeling of the typhoon circulation in the Luzon Strait.”
Pagasa added that “Inday”, which is forecast to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Monday night or Tuesday morning, may continue to gradually weaken due to “cooler waters” in the sea east of Taiwan and the East China Sea, and “increasing vertical wind shear along its projected path.”
