A NEW low pressure area (LPA) is expected to enter the country on Monday, after a similar weather disturbance brought scattered rains in Cebu and parts of Central Visayas.
Oscar Tabada, Mactan chief of the state weather bureau Pagasa, said they are monitoring the incoming low pressure area, spotted 2,000 kilometers from teh country.
He said there are signs that it may develop into a storm on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
If it turns into a typhoon, Tabada said it would be named “Ambo” and would first affect Mindanao and parts of the Visayas.
For now, Tabada said moderate rains were felt this week until today due to an existing low pressure area moving 90 kilometers per hour at the areas of Palawan.
It will leave the country tomorrow evening, Tabada said.
“The low pressure area will pass through Palawan going towards South of China, by Sunday, but there will be another one this Monday,” Tabada told Cebu Daily News.
Tabada said Cebuanos can expect heavy rains and strong winds next week.
He said the public, especially families living along river banks and landslide prone areas, should monnitor the weather.
All weather stations in the world will celebrate the 62nd World and 147th National Meteorological Organization day today.
This year’s theme is “Powering our Future Weather Climate and Water”.
Tabada said a series of lectures will be given to students and barangay officials about climate change and disasters brought by natural calamities. Correspondent Fe Marie D. Dumaboc
