STS Inday’s trough brings cloudy skies, rain as it approaches Batanes

MANILA, Philippines — Severe Tropical Storm Inday’s (international name: Muifa) trough is set to bring overcast weather to some parts of the country as its center nears Batanes on Saturday, according to the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, the Bicol Region, Bataan, Zambales, and the western Visayas can expect cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to Inday’s trough.

“As of four in the morning, ay huling namataan ang sentro ni Inday almost 500 kilometers na lamang po, sa silangan ng Basco, Batanes. Taglay ang maximum sustained winds na 110 kilometers per hour, so relatively, malakas po ito na bagyo, na may pagbugso ng 135 kilometers per hour,” said Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estreja in a press briefing.

According to Estreja, there is a chance that Pagasa may raise a Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal over extreme northern Luzon once Inday intensifies and becomes a typhoon.

Inday may bring moderate to rough seas over the seaboards of Batanes and the Babuyan Islands this weekend, making it risky for smaller seacrafts to sail, said the state weather bureau.

For Metro Manila and the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers are expected due to localized thunderstorms.

Pagasa warned areas affected by rainfall of possible flash floods and landslides.
