LEGAZPI CITY — Government forces discovered on Thursday, Sept. 8, firearms and explosives in Magallanes town, Sorsogon province.
Major John Paul Belleza, chief of the public affairs office of the Philippine Army’s 9th Infantry Division, said police and military troops found around 5 a.m. three M16 rifles, a KG9, three anti-personnel mines, bullets, and propaganda materials inside a coconut plantation in Barangay Bulala.
Belleza said concerned citizens informed the military about the location of the firearms belonging to the communist New People’s Army.
On Sunday morning, two suspected rebels surrendered to the authorities in Barangay Calmayon in Juban town.
Belleza said the surrenderers also helped them locate a buried container with three M16 rifles, ammunition for M14 and M16 rifles, several magazines, anti-personnel mines, tools for making explosives, and propaganda materials.
