ZAMBOANGA CITY — Two persons died, and four children were injured on Thursday, September 8, when unidentified men strafed the house of a family in Guiong village, Sumisip town of Basilan.
Brigadier General John Guyguyon, regional director of the Police Regional Office of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said Madjali Taalil, 60, and Maldiya Taalil Baakal, 39, died when gunmen rained bullets on their house, wounding the children Ramik Taalil; Al-Rani Taalil Baakal, 16; Saliha Taalil Baakal, 6; and Silsiyan Taalil Baakal, 1 year old.
Guyguyon said it was raining in the area, and the family was asleep when attacked at about 1:30 a.m.
He said the police had yet to determine the relation of the two fatalities. “We still don’t have concrete data about the identities of the attackers and their motive,” Guyguyon said.
He said he had directed Colonel Carlos Madronio, provincial police director in Basilan, to investigate the incident deeper and coordinate with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group to track down and arrest the perpetrators.
“We need help to address this incident. We will seek assistance from the military to help solve the case,” he added.
Guyguyon said the wounded children needed to be transferred to the Zamboanga City Medical Center to receive treatment for their bullet wounds. “It’s crucial that the children are given immediate medical attention,” he said.
