11 PDEA tipsters get over P9.6M reward
MANILA, Philippines – Eleven civilian informants of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) received over P9.6 million in cash rewards during the awarding ceremony at the PDEA National Headquarters in Quezon City on Tuesday.
PDEA Director General Wilkins Villanueva said the informants’ tips led to the arrest of several high-value drug suspects and the seizure of large amounts of illegal drugs as part of “Operation Private Eye” – a citizen-based information collection program that encourages people to report illegal drug activity in their neighborhoods.
Among those who received cash rewards were informants under the aliases Dream, Indah, Aquaman, Bruno, Datu, Jojo, Mashu, Marvin, Mambo, Ali, and Tin.
Dream, who was an informant for four separate buy-bust operations, was given the largest share of the reward money at P8 million for providing information that resulted in the death of five drug suspects and the arrest of five others.
The Operation Private Eye rewards committee – composed of members from the academe, non-government organizations, law enforcement, religious, and business sectors – is tasked to deliberate and approve resolutions granting monetary rewards to qualified informants.
