DSWD cash aid for Ilocos students hits P43M

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — At least P43 million in educational assistance had been released to qualified “students-in-crisis” in the Ilocos region since the payout started in August, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Monday, Sept. 5.

The figure represents 43.71 percent of the total fund allocated for cash assistance, according to the regional DSWD.

At least P56 million in funds are still up for distribution, it added.

So far, at least 18,036 qualified students in the region have received educational assistance from the agency. Data showed that 101,449 students applied for the aid.

In the third week of distribution on Sept. 3, at least 994 students from Ilocos Norte received financial assistance, while 289 in Ilocos Sur, 589 in La Union, and 2,004 in Pangasinan, the data from the regional DOH showed.

Under the agency’s assistance to individuals-in-crisis situation (AICS), financial aid is given to vulnerable families to help their students cope with their studies.

The agency said it would continue its distribution next Saturday, Sept. 10, but advised that they would accommodate applicants only if they received an official communication via text message from the regional DSWD. INQ
