Lawmaker backs proposed resumption of peace talks with communist rebels

A group of church leaders appealed to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to resume the peace negotiations between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).

MANILA, Philippines – ACT Teachers Representative and House Deputy Minority Leader France Castro is supporting the call of Sen. Loren Legarda to resume peace talks with communist rebels.

“We support Senator Loren Legarda’s call for the resumption of peace talks especially as the Comprehensive Agreement on Social Economic Reforms is next on the agenda and so that the common goal of addressing poverty and attaining just and lasting peace can be realized,” Castro said in a statement on Friday.

“To genuinely address the roots of armed conflict and achieve social justice, both parties should pick up where they left off and respect the previous agreements,” Castro said.

Legarda on Tuesday pushed for the revival of peace talks with the communist rebels.
