Batanes under Signal No. 2 due to Typhoon Henry

MANILA, Philippines — State meteorologists raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 over Batanes on Friday due to Typhoon Henry (international name Hinnamnor).

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the Babuyan Islands, and the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan remain under TCWS No. 1.

Typhoon Henry is now located 365 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour and a gustiness of up to 205 kilometers per hour.

The Ilocos region, Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, Apayao, and Abra can expect moderate to heavy, with at times heavy rain, said Pagasa.

Gale warnings have been raised over the northern and eastern seaboards of northern Luzon, with Pagasa expecting a rough to very rough sea conditions with waves ranging from 2.8 to 5 meters high, as well as in the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon with waves from 2.8 to 4.5 meters.

Meanwhile, the combined effects of Typhoon Henry and the southwest monsoon will bring moderate to heavy, at times intense rain in Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, and Zambales, according to Pagasa’s latest advisory.

In the same advisory, Pagasa said Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro could expect light to moderate, and at times heavy rain.

According to Pagasa, the southwest monsoon will also bring rain over Isabela and the western portion of Central Luzon and the rest of CAR.

Pagasa warned that flooding and landslides are likely in affected areas under heavy rain conditions. The state weather bureau said their regional divisions would issue local heavy rainfall warnings and thunderstorm advisories accordingly.
