MANILA, Philippines —The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced Thursday that a new building complex would soon be rising in Marikina City to provide emergency housing for homeless children, the elderly, and disaster-affected families.
It will be named Manila Boystown Complex, according to DPWH, and it will be built by the agency’s National Capital Region (NCR) office. The project is worth P92 million.
DPWH said the four-story building will house offices and 17-bed spaces with private bathrooms, as well as storage, laundry, and kitchen areas for Boystown employees.
The Manila Boystown Complex’s first two floors will serve as an evacuation center, providing comfortable shelter to disaster-stricken families while other areas will serve as additional housing for abandoned youth and the elderly.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the building was recently led by DPWH Assistant Secretary Antonio Molano Jr. together with NCR Director Abel P. Canlas and Manila City Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan.
The construction of the modernized facility is seen to help Boystown personnel fulfill their commitment to providing care and support to beneficiaries, as well as the Manila City government’s constituents since it is meant to provide appropriate help to the homeless and abandoned, particularly children and senior citizens on Manila’s streets. stressed DPWH. — Lyka Farillon, Inquirer.net Intern
