NTC to telcos: Brace for typhoon; ensure reliable services in affected areas

MANILA, Philippines – The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has ordered telecommunications companies to brace for Super Typhoon Henry (international name: Hinnamor) and ensure stable services and / or the speedy restoration of the same in affected areas.

“You are hereby directed to ensure that there is a sufficient number of technical and support personnel and standby generators with extra fuel, tools, and spare equipment in the areas forecast to be affected by tropical depression “Gardo” and the incoming super typhoon ‘Hinnamnor’,” said NTC Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba in a memorandum.

The NTC has also directed the telecommunications firms to fast-track repairs and restoration of telecommunication services in areas that will be affected by weather disturbances and to deploy “Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging” stations in key areas. 

“You are also reminded to coordinate with the LGUs and observe strict health protocols to avoid transmission of coronavirus disease (COVID-19)”, Cordoba added.
