DSWD releases P43.89-M worth of student aid in Western Visayas

The DSWD released a total of P43.89 million in Western Visayas for "students-in-crisis," a government program which is now in its third week.

ILOILO CITY—The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has released a total of P43.89 million in Western Visayas for “students-in-crisis,” a government program which is now in its third week.

The amount includes P22.7 million that was released on August 27, and the P20.76 million reported on August 20.

The DSWD in the region logged a total of 16,033 beneficiaries so far, including 3,937 elementary pupils, 3,214 junior high schools students, 2,015 senior high schools (SHS) students, and 6,867 college students across the region.

The city and province of Iloilo released the biggest amount at P15.11 million, followed by Negros Occidental and Bacolod City (P7.509 million), Capiz (P6.709 million), Aklan (P5.404 million), Antique (P5.3 million), and Guimaras (P3.85 million).

Elementary pupils are entitled to a minimum of P1,000 and junior high schools students a minimum of P2,000, with both having a maximum payout of P5,000, which are released on a pre-school-year basis.
