CIDG nabs 6 persons in Quezon fuel theft
LUCENA CITY—Operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested on Sunday six persons allegedly involved in diesel fuel pilfering in Tiaong, Quezon province.
The CIDG-Quezon Field Unit reported that a team led by Police Lieutenant Harold Landicho and local police caught the suspects siphoning diesel from two trucks at the bypass road in Barangay Lumingon.
The theft is called “paihi,” a Filipino term referring to the act of urinating, but which has come to mean siphoning fuel from a tank or depot in crime parlance.
The CIDG said the pilfered fuel would be sold to pre-arranged buyers, an illegal act.
The police impounded the two trucks, seized hundreds of liters of diesel fuel, and confiscated an unspecified amount of cash from the suspects.
