TUMAUINI, Isabela—Five people, including a six-month-old boy, were killed instantly while two others were injured after a wayward trailer truck rammed a tricycle and a motorbike along the national highway in this town Saturday afternoon (August 27), police said.
Police Major Sharon Mallillin, Cagayan Valley police spokesperson, identified the fatalities as motorcycle rider Kuldip Singh, 38 and an Indian national; tricycle driver Arnel Menor, 36, of Mallig town; and passengers Diana Rose Menor, his wife; their six-month-old son Prince Adrian Menor; and Ernesto Caronan, 71, all of Bliss Village in Ilagan City.
Elma Caronan, Ernesto’s 64-year-old wife, was seriously injured while Oliver Zamora, 29, of Alicia, Isabela, the driver of the trailer truck driver suffered slight injuries. Ernesto and Elma were the parents of Diana Rose.
Probers said Zamora’s truck was heading north when it encroached the left lane of the road in Balug village at about 2:30 p.m., ramming the oncoming tricycle and motorcycle.
The five victims died instantly while the injured were taken to the Tumauini Community Hospital for treatment.
Zamora was taken to the Tumauini police for custody while appropriate charges are being prepared for filing against him.
