TAGBILARAN CITY — The Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) on Thursday dismissed reports of kidnapping in the different parts of the province, saying these were all false.
“Based on our investigation, there is no truth and basis to it,” a statement from BPPO read.
Netizens have been sharing social media posts about a white van and attempted kidnapping incidents in Calape, Ubay, and Carmen towns.
BPPO appealed to the public not to spread wrong information and unvalidated reports.
“The post on social media about kidnapping incidents has no sufficient basis. So, we ask the people not to post on social media anything that can cause fear and confusion to our brothers and sisters,” it said.
Mercedita Tagsip, 48, a resident of Tagbilaran had to personally accompany her children aged 8 and 9 to school to ensure their safety after learning about the alleged kidnapping incidents in Bohol.
“I read about it (kidnapping incidents) on Facebook. Who would not fear it?” she said.
Even if the reports were untrue, Bohol Gov. Aris Aumentado instructed the BPPO to deploy policemen in different areas, especially near the schools.
