MANILA, Philippines—Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago said Land Registration Authority Eualio Diaz III was guilty of “gross negligence” when he provided the prosecution team of unverified list of 45 properties allegedly owned by Chief Justice Renato Corona.
“You are guilty of negligence. Not only of negligence but of gross negligence either you or the prosecution. Nobody else!” the fiery senator said when she confronted Diaz, who returned to the witness stand.
Before this, Santiago scolded the LRA chief for being careless in providing the document to the prosecutors.
The senator pointed out that the release of the list to the prosecution team, and later to the public, created an impression that the Chief Justice owned and stole all the properties
“I just forwarded the document,” said Diaz.
“Sino ngayon ang may kasalanan? Prosecution o ikaw? Answer me! Look in my eyes, look me in the eyes!” Santiago said.
“I have no fault your honor,” said the witness.
“Ah wala ka. E di sila?” said the senator.
“I’m not saying that your honor,” said Diaz but he was cut by Santiago.
“You’re not saying that? What are you saying? Whose fault is it? Someone is at fault here,” said the senator.
“I would not know, “ said the witness, which further angered Santiago.
“I commend your ignorance,” the senator added.
