MANILA, Philippines — COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region decreased by 15 percent the past week, OCTA Research fellow Guido David reported Monday.
David said COVID-19 cases in the NCR dropped from August 14 to August 20 compared to the week prior, which he said is “quite encouraging.”
NCR Covid cases decreased by 15% compared to previous week. Reproduction number down to 1.03, HCUR remained at 37% while positivity rate decreased from 16.3% to 14.6%. NCR remained at MODERATE RISK at this time but the 2-week decline is very encouraging. #COVID19 @dzbb @DZAR1026 pic.twitter.com/3NL8FPJG0L

The positivity rate over the past week decreased from 16.3 percent to 14.6 percent while the hospital care utilization rate (HCUR) remained at 37 percent, said Guido.
Further, Guido reported that the reproduction number—or the number of people that each COVID-19 patient can infect—was at 1.03 as of August 18. This was lower than the 1.11 recorded on August 11, said Guido.
“The decrease in cases and positivity rate in the NCR has held for two weeks now, a good sign moving forward,” Guido said in a tweet.
