LEGAZPI CITY—The local government of Libon in Albay on Monday suspended classes at all levels in all schools due to heavy rains brought by Tropical Depression “Florita.”
Mayor Wilfredo Maronilla said he had advised village officials to monitor the situation in their areas.
Ian James Secillano, head of the Libon disaster risk reduction management office, said Zone 4 of San Isidro village, one of the major thoroughfares, was flooded due to the downpour starting 4 a.m.
In the 5 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Florita was located some 310 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.
Florita packed maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph. It was moving west-southwest at 20 kph.
In an 8:30 a.m. rainfall advisory, Pagasa Southern Luzon said all provinces in Bicol, Northern Samar, Romblon, Marinduque, and Oriental Mindoro would experience light to moderate with occasional heavy rains. INQ
