Lapu-Lapu’s Midnight Beer Run set

Lapu-Lapu City councilor and the Sports Tourism chairman Harry Don Radaza, together with the ASAP Promotions and veteran race director Joel Baring of Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (Safe), will put up a unique kind of running event during the commemoration of the Kadaugan sa Mactan this April 27.

Radaza and his partners will stage the Midnight Beer Run, wherein the main hydration for participating runners will be beer.

“We came up with the beer run because we were inspired by a race in France, where hydration stations served wines instead of water,” said Perl Jacalan of ASAP Promotions. “We find it unique and fun.”

Water will still be available along the route at the hydration stations.

Beer contains ingredients that aids in converting carbohydrates to energy. However, beer is advised to be taken moderately during the race to benefit this kind of nutrition.

Near the finish line, participants will also have  a shot of whiskey and another glass of beer after crossing the finish line.

Radaza, who spearheaded the Run for Japan  during the celebration of the Kadaugan sa Mactan last year, said he thought it would be unique to put up a race like this.

“We want to guarantee everyone that they will enjoy (the race),” said Radaza during the launching of the running event at the Mesa Restaurant at the Ayala Center Cebu. “That’s why we came up with this running event, which is purely for fun.”

MINORS NOT ALLOWED

The fun run will be a non-competitive running event that will offer 3k and 6k distances.

Since the race involves beer, it will only be for runners aged 18 years and above. Minors are not allowed to join the race.

Radaza said they are staging this race just for fun and they will serve beer to participants moderately. They are also looking to promote the healthy benefits of beer and running.

Registration fee is pegged at P150 inclusive of one bottle of beer in the finish line aside from the beer available at the hydration stations deployed along the race route.

The first 1,000 enlistees will avail of a survivor’s shirt.

Registration sites are at the Lapu-Lapu City Hall Youth Affairs office and at the RUNNR Ayala Center Cebu.

Proceeds of the race will go to Lapu-Lapu City’s task force on street children.
