MANILA, Philippines —Parents in Makati have been spreading the word online that their local government unit (LGU) has provided free school supplies and uniforms to pupils attending public schools in readiness for the beginning of the new school year’s face-to-face classes..

On Thursday, bank messenger Marvin Casa Benitez told INQUIRER.net that his family benefited tremendously from the free school supplies that were provided.

“Sobrang laki ng tulong po, kasi malaking menos sa gastos po every year sa pasukan ng bata. Hindi lang po school supplies pinamimigay ni Mayora Abby Binay, food packs din po para sa mga bata,” he said.

(It is a big help since there will be fewer yearly expenses when the kids go to school. Mayor Abby Binay did not just give out school supplies but food packs for the children as well).

Benitez shared that the process was easy. He learned about the giveaways through a Google Form he received in a group chat with his child’s advisor and other parents.

“Pipili lang kami ng sizes… naka-indicate naman po yung items at kung ano size choice namin,” shared Benitez.

(We will just pick sizes. It is indicated there what the items are and the size we would prefer).

On top of the school supplies, Benitez said they also received an anti-dengue kit.

The Makati resident shared that his child is excited to go to school, even if they will only have a hybrid setup. Benitez’s child has only experienced their kinder and prep classes online.

Another local parent, Jenny Rose Jordan, shared photos of her daughter’s school supplies with Be an Inquirer.

Her incoming first-grade daughter received a school bag, two sets of school uniforms, three pairs of socks, a pair of shoes, Makati City patches, and an anti-dengue kit.
