LOOK: Four envoys pay courtesy visits to VP Sara

MANILA, Philippines — Four ambassadors to the Philippines on Wednesday paid courtesy visits to Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte.

Duterte received them at the central office of the Department of Education in Pasig City.

In a statement, Duterte said she was first visited by Italian Ambassador to the Philippines Marco Clemente, who expressed support for Filipino learners in public schools.

“Hinikayat [niya] ang pagpapakilala ng Italian culture sa bansa sa iba’t ibang paraan katulad ng musika at teatro,” the Vice President said.

(The ambassador encouraged the introduction of Italian culture in the Philippines in different platforms such as music and theater.)

Irish Ambassador to the Philippines William John Carlos was next to visit Duterte, where they talked about the bilateral relation of Ireland and the Philippines.

“Sinabi niya sa akin na ang kanilang bansa ay laging handang tumulong sa Pilipinas sa usapin ng kultura at edukasyon,” Duterte said.

(He told me that Ireland is always ready to help the Philippines in terms of culture and education.)

Vietnamese Ambassador to the Philippines Hoang Huy Chung also paid a courtesy call to the Vice President. Duterte said the envoy also handed her a letter from Vietnam Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan.

Duterte thanked Vietnam for their support for the country’s programs.

“Sinabi ko (I told them): The Philippines will always be with Vietnam in good times and in bad times,” she said.

The Vietnamese ambassador, in his visit, gave a painting to Duterte from the Vietnam Vice President.

“Ang espesyal na regalong ito ay agad kong sinabit dito sa aming Conference Room dito sa DepEd. Maraming salamat, Vietnam Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan. Mabuhay po kayo!” she said.

Lastly, Lao Ambassador to the Philippines Songkane Luangmuninthone paid a courtesy call to Duterte.

The Vice President said they talked about bilateral relations, especially in the education sector, as well as the importance of the English language as a medium of instructions in schools, considering that many English teachers in Southeast Asian nations are Filipinos.

“Dagdag pa, napag-usapan namin na makipag-ugnayan sa Commission on Higher Education upang mapaunlakan pa ang ibang mga Laos university students na bumisita at mag-aral dito sa Pilipinas,” Duterte said.

(Moreover, we talked about coordinating with the CHEd to allow Laos university students to visit and study here in the Philippines.)
