MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Wednesday announced that it would collaborate with the Department of Tourism (DOT) to boost the hospitality industry’s employment in the country by conducting job fairs in several areas nationwide.

According to Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma in a statement, the job fairs dubbed “Trabaho Turismo Asenso” is set to be launched from September 22 to 24 and will be held in various parts of the country in coordination with the regional offices of DOLE and DOT, as well as local government units.

“It will be a series of job fairs to be held in various cities and provinces with initial focus in Metro Manila, Cebu and Davao,” Laguesma said.

Laguesma explained that the DOLE and DOT initiated the collaboration after the latter agency found that many hotel establishments currently lack manpower.

“What we’re about to undertake aims to support the government’s economic recovery program by providing a platform for job seekers for job opportunities in various tourism sectors and allied services,” Laguesma said.

“Through the job fairs, we can help organizations find the best candidates for their vacancies, thus bridging industry gaps,” he added.

Laguesma said DOLE has begun coordinating with the Philippine Hotel Owners Association (PHOA) for the specific types of jobs required and the number of vacancies in the sector.

Also an MOU will be produced to formalize the two agencies’ partnership on the program.
