MANILA, Philippines — Senator Grace Poe has been infected with coronavirus, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri announced on Wednesday.

“Senator Grace Poe, ma’am, please get well soon from your COVID-19. We pray in the Senate that you stay safe and can hurdle COVID-19. I’m sure you will do well,” Zubiri said during the plenary session.

Since early August, four senators have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes severe respiratory illness COVID-19.

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano was the first to contract the virus, followed by Senators Imee Marcos and Cynthia Villar.

Cayetano has already recovered and returned to work physically at the Senate compound in Pasay City.

From August 15, the Senate imposed a three-week lockdown for guests.

Under the lockdown, Senate visitors are limited to resource persons who are required to present a negative COVID-19 test.
