DAVAO CITY — A magnitude 5.5 earthquake rocked Davao del Sur on Monday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs also said the epicenter of the temblor, which hit at 4:23 p.m., is 12 kilometers southwest of Magsaysay town.
It added that the quake had a depth of focus of 24 km from the surface and was tectonic in origin.
The agency also said the tremor was felt in the following areas:

Intensity V or “strong” vibrations – Kidapawan City; Davao City; Tupi and Polomolok, South Cotabato; Malungon, Sarangani

Intensity IV or “moderately strong” vibrations – Sta. Cruz, Bansalan, Digos City, and Matanao, Davao del Sur; Koronadal City; Tampakan, Norala, and Banga, South Cotabato; Alabel, Sarangani; Lutayan, Columbio, Pres. Quirino, Senator Ninoy Aquino, Sultan Kudarat; Tulunan and M’lang, Cotabato

Intensity III or “weak” vibrations – Cotabato City; Tantangan, Surallah, Kiamba, and Glan, Sarangani; Palimbang, Isulan, Tacurong, and Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat; Magpet, Arakan, Pigcawayan and President Roxas, Cotabato

Intensity II or “slightly felt” vibrations – Maasim, Sarangani

State seismologists further warned that aftershocks and significant damage from the earthquake may be expected although there was no reported damage yet as of this posting.
