MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has asked the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) members to work “double time” before their term ends in 2025.

Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity Carlito Galvez Jr. disclosed this Monday following the oath-taking of 80 new members of the BTA.

“So ang kanyang (Marcos) mensahe sa ating BTA members, including kay Chief Minister, ay talagang mag-double time po sila kasi sinabi nga niya na itong three-year extension, ito po ay napaka-igsi para at least mapabuti po nila at magawa ‘yung fundamental laws at tsaka legislation at sa mga codes na dapat po nilang gawin,” Galvez said during the Laging Handa briefing.

(So President Marcos’ message to our BTA members, including the chief minister, was to work double time if they wanted to get the fundamental laws and legislation done.)

“Including na dito ang electoral code, revenue code, local government code, at tsaka yung IP (indigenous peoples) code,” he added.

(Included are the electoral code, revenue code, local government code, and IP code.)

Galvez said Marcos has also ordered him to help the BTA, noting that achieving peace in Mindanao is “very important” for the President.

“Sinasabi nga po ng ating mahal na Presidente na siya ay handang tumulong sa ating Bangsamoro Transition Authority para mapadali po ang lahat ng mga gawain po nila,” Galvez said.

(Our beloved President said he is willing to help the BTA members  to make their tasks easier.)

Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11593 in 2021, which postponed the BARMM elections scheduled for this year, thus extending the BTA’s transition period until 2025.

The BTA is tasked with passing crucial laws that would authorize the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to exercise legislative and executive powers during the region’s transition period.
