DOTr chief eyes concession with private sector to improve Naia
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is looking into teaming up with the private sector for the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) rehabilitation.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said on Monday that Naia is accommodating passengers more than its capacity, leading to congestion in the airport.
“In the aviation sector, we’re looking at the possibility of doing a concession with the private sector in improving Manila International Airport,” Bautista said on ANC Headstart, referring to the old name of Naia.

“The airport now has the capacity of only 35 million passengers a year, but handling more than 40 million, this is the reason for the congestion,” he added.
According to Bautista, there is a need to build additional terminals and enhance air bridges to allow more tourists.

Bautista’s goal is to make Naia comparable to the airports of its adjacent nations.
“For aviation, I would like to have a facility which is comparable to the facilities in our neighboring countries,” he said.
