In a meeting with members of the League of Provinces of the Philippines on Thursday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sought better coordination in terms of digitalization between the national and local governments to ensure better food security.

“We have to coordinate our efforts on food supply. We cannot just allow ‘bahala na kayo’,” the President said, who is also agriculture secretary.

According to him, many local governments are “quite progressive” and are even ahead of the national government in terms of digitalization.

In July, the President ordered agriculture officials to create a farm-to-market road masterplan to guide the administration in promoting food security in the country.

Marcos also earlier said he wanted to pursue government-to-government talks to buy cheaper fertilizers from other countries to address its soaring prices and improve food security. —NESTOR CORRALES
