MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon or “habagat” has weakened but will still trigger rainfall in Bataan, Zambales and Kalayaan Islands on Thursday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, meantime, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible rain showers due to localized thunderstorms,.

(This morning, cloudy skies are expected in parts of Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, as well as the Mindoro provinces and Marindueque. Meanwhile there is a high chance of rain in Zambales, Bataan, and Kalayaan Islands due to the southwest monsoon or habagat).

Estareja added that the Visayas and Mindanao can expect fair weather conditions in the morning but cloudy skies and rain in the afternoon and evening due to localized thunderstorms.

In their latest weather bulletin, Pagasa still cautioned areas affected by rain of possible flash floods and landslides.

Estareja also noted that the two weather disturbances outside the Philippine area of responsibility–a low pressure area and a tropical storm–will not directly impact the country.
