MANILA, Philippines — Funding worth PP1.58 billion has been released to bankroll the emergency shelter assistance for victims of Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai).
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) disclosed this Wednesday, adding that the subsidy is expected to benefit more than 150,000 households in various regions that were battered by the weather event late last year.
Specifically, the DBM noted, the money was released on Monday, August 8, and would help in the rebuilding of 153,410 totally damaged houses in Regions VI (Western Visayas), VIII (Eastern Visayas), X (Northern Mindanao), and XIII (Caraga). Each beneficiary stands to receive P10,000, it added.
“Bawat isa sa atin ay itinuturing ang tahanan bilang isang safe haven o ligtas na lugar. Ang pagkakaroon ng isang maayos na tahanan ay dalangin ng bawat Pilipino,” Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, who approved the Special Allotment Release Order for the fund, said in a statement.

“Kaya kaisa po ang DBM sa pagtulong na masigurong bawat tahanang nasira ng bagyong Odette ay maiayos upang komportableng masilungan ng ating mga kababayan kasama ang kanilang pamilya at mga mahal sa buhay,” she added.

Funding for the emergency shelter assistance was requested by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, according to the DBM.
“Bagaman tumama ang bagyong Odette noong nakaraang taon, hindi po nakalimutan ng inyong pamahalaan ang mga nasalanta. Patuloy ang pagbibigay natin ng tulong sa mga nangangailangan para sa kanilang pagbangon muli,” Pangandaman said.
